About River
River came to MCHS on 9/30/2025 as a stray caught after running loose for a few days, held for the legal hold time, and never claimed. We are fairly certain of her original background as several puppies that looked like her were dumped by their owner near our shelter in February 2024. We eventually found out that those pups were born in late November 2023 to a Great Dane mix mother and bluetick coonhound father and that the entire litter was not abandoned. All of those puppies found homes and now River is still waiting for one after coming to the shelter as an adult. She has been vet checked, spayed, and microchipped, and her fee is $150. River certainly exemplifies many hound characteristics in both looks and behavior. Hounds and their mixes tend to be stubborn, fun loving, and ruled by their noses and the scents on the breeze.
